Abuse Prevention and Response Training

  • Woodside Baptist Church Ocala Florida (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Churches are called to be places of safety, healing, and hope—especially for children, youth, and other vulnerable people in our care. Tragically, abuse can and does occur in ministry settings when safeguards are weak or missing.

This half-day training will help pastors and ministry leaders understand what abuse is, how it impacts individuals and church communities, and how your church can put wise safeguards and response plans in place. Together we’ll learn from practitioners in abuse prevention and response and we’ll highlight resources available through the SBC’s Abuse Prevention & Response work as well as The Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (ECAP).

Who Should Attend?

• Senior/lead pastors and elders

• Executive pastors, administrators, and office managers

• Nursery, children’s, youth, and college ministry leaders

• Special needs ministry leaders

• Biblical counselors and care ministry team members

• Any church leader involved in screening, training, or supervising volunteers and staff

Speakers

Jeff Dalrymple

Jeff serves as Director of Abuse Prevention & Response with the SBC Executive Committee. He works with churches, associations, and state conventions to promote abuse prevention, care, and response best practices across Southern Baptist life.

Dr. Manny Keyser

Manny is a relational network systems practitioner, pastor, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, certified in traumatology and family therapy. He is passionate about helping people and organizations thrive by strengthening connections, clarifying vision, and creating positive change.

Amber Privett

Amber is a faithful follower of Christ and a licensed clinical social worker and owner of Amber Privett Counseling. Her passion is to create a safer world for the most vulnerable among us and most ardently believes that the church should be a space where abuse survivors can experience the comfort, love, and peace of God.

Tactics and Firearms Handling

This course is held inside the church and focuses on behavior-based responses for Armed Protectors, including decision making in and around crowds during an active threat. Training guns and holsters will be provided and utilized during the training (no live weapons).  This is "dry practice" non-live fire class, and all skill levels are welcome.  We will discuss realistic responses along with explaining the difference between range safety and real-life safety.
