Does Your Church Have More Leaders Than You Need?

Churches in the New Testament were not perfect by any means. Each one of them had their share of problems and the Pauline Epistles document that well. However, they did seem to excel in leadership development. The churches in the New Testament seemed to have plenty of Elders, Deacons, Teachers and other leaders. For Example, the Church at Atioch in Acts 13 listed five teachers. When the Holy Spirit instructed the church to send out Barnabas and Saul, they laid hands on them and sent them out. Did this create a leadership vacuum in the church? Apparently not, for there were 3 others capable of stepping up to the task. Over and over again in the New Testament, we see churches developing and sending leaders to take the gospel into new territory and to help other churches to become stronger. Where did all of these leaders come from? At our next Lunch and Learn on Thursday, November 5th, we are going to address the leadership void by sharing the New Testament model of leadership development. Some of the principles covered are:

  • The resources are in the harvest - John 4: 35-37

  • Pray for workers - Matthew 9:38

  • Preach repentance - Act 2:38

  • Teach obedience - Matthew 28:20

  • Equip for service - Ephesians 4:12

  • Multiply leaders - II Timothy 2:2

  • Send to serve - John 20:21

Beginning with Barnabas, we will look at the ministry of leadership coaching. Author, Robert E. Logan, identified five phases of coaching: Relate, Reflect, Refocus, Resource, and Review. We will talk about each of these phases and how church leaders can use leadership coaching to help fill the gap between discipleship and leadership. Space is limited to 15 people at this event, so please register early. Click the image below for more information.
